Title: Maborosi – A “Secret of Mana” dojinshi
Rating: 7/10
When you first see this manga, you can’t help but take notice at its VERY appealing front cover. A tentacle scene, with a blond Valkyrie look-a-like and a very cute redhead dons the outside of this 60-page dojin. I admit, this is what really got my attention to this one in the first place. Inside, you are first greeting with a BnW version of the cover, then it gets ugly. At page 4, you see a HORRIBLE, and I mean UGLY drawing of Tifa Lockheart from Final Fantasy. It is really poorly done, and deserves nothing more that a 2/10. Fortunately, it is only one of two (yes, two. The other one is way worse) fuglies in this manga, which is good. The entire dojin is basically comprised of three separate stories, the first two featuring the redhead and blond of the cover respectively, and the last is about a third girl.
The first story, “Lilia”, starts of with a sort of Ragnarok Online feel, with this Crusader-looking guy and the girl. The tentacle beast is sorta ugly too, it’s something like a Cyclops octopus… thingie. The tentacle scenes are slightly unorganized, but other than that, it is actually well done. Tentacles and phalluses are drawn properly, and there are a good number of cross-section scene, which is always a plus point in tentacle scenes. The next story involves Valkyrie girl, and is excellent, except for the somewhat graphic nature (yes, there’s a bloody mess ;-) ) The scenes are really cool, and I like the ending a lot, but in the overall, it isn’t very imaginative. The story is the stereotypical strong gal-young guy-big boss “Miko Mido” plot, boring… XD (well, to someone who reviews these stuff, yes. But to the ordinary guy/ or gal, it’s good enough.) The last story is the worst of the three. Mess-up story line, disorderly paneling, stereotype scene, a gawker’s dream… and did I mention the even cornier ending. After this, you will see another fugly page, a drawing of… I rather not say, just see for yourself and you’ll know what I mean. XD
